North West Juvenile's win at Cruit Island 14 July 2010

On Saturday past the North West's Under 16's team travelled to the very west of Donegal to play Cruit Island in the first round of the Donegal Championship. The format is three matches played in a fourball betterball format with a maximum handicap of 16.
It was a landmark occasion for the Cruit Island team in that it was the first ever juvenile team that the club had fielded in any competition in their club's history. The lads from North West lads proved too strong for their opponents however and won the first two matches with the third match called in. In the first match Oisin O'Donnell and Ruari Bradley won on the 15th hole while behind them the rookie pairing of Luke Bradley and Christopher Doherty won 9 of the first 10 holes to score a record victory. In the final pairing Shane Devlin and Marty Doherty were in control of their match at the 15th when called in. All the boys really enjoyed the experience of matchplay on the fantastic nine hole course perched on the Atlantic Coast and in his Captain's speech afterwards Luke Bradley paid tribute to the Cruit Island Golf Club for their very warm welcome and thanked Frankie Friel on behalf of the team for his time and efforts in coaching them over the past number of months.
Meanwhile the Fred Daly team face Narin and Portnoo at Lisfannon this Friday in the second leg, where they will be looking to overturn the 6-1 result from Portnoo. All support welcome. Match tees off at 2.00 pm Friday 16th July.

Fred Daly team v Portnoo 07 July 2010

The North West Fred Daly Team travelled to Narin & Portnoo Golf Club on Sunday for the first leg of the first round in the Fred Daly Plate. Conditions were almost unplayable with really strong winds sweeping across the course and the players experienced the pictueresque couse on the Atlantic coast at it's very toughest. The North West team managed to get one match with Christopher Doherty winning in his first ever Fred Daly match. Many of the other matches were hard fought battles to the end but all went in favour of the home team. The Lisfannon lads are now readying themselves for the rematch when they will have home advantage and hopefully can turn the tables and make it through to the next round, where Letterkenny Golf Club awaits. The team consisted of Carlo Diggin, Oisin O'Donnell, Kevin Fitzsimmons, Luke Bradley, Jonathan Doherty, Christy Doherty, and Darragh McDermott with Marty Doherty as reserve. Meanwhile, this Saturday, many of the team make another long trip to take on Cruit in the Donegal Matchplay Under 16's. Good Luck to both teams.
