  • These golf balls represent un-repaired and incorrectly repaired pitch marks on the 16th green on the weekend of 10th 11th October.
  • This severely impacts on the quality of the putting surface and leads to bumpy greens.
  • It is every golfers duty to repair their pitch marks and assist the greenstaff  in bringing you quality greens

Pitch Mark Repair Guide 21 September 2009

Pitch Mark Repair Guide

Pitch20Repair

Ball marks - also called pitch marks - are the bane of smooth-putting and healthy greens on golf courses all over the world. They're the little depressions, or craters, sometimes made when a golf ball descends from the sky and impacts the putting surface.

Repairing those little depressions is very important. Equally important is doing it the right way. Because while many golfers fail to repair ball marks - and shame on you if you are one of them - there are also many well-meaning golfers who do "repair" the pitch marks, only to do so incorrectly.

A ball mark can cause the grass in the depression to die, leaving not just a scar but also a pit in the putting surface that can knock well-struck putts offline. Repairing a ball mark restores a smooth surface and helps keep the grass healthy. But "repairing" a ball mark incorrectly can actually cause more damage than not attempting to repair it at all.

So golfers, lets all start fixing our ball marks, and doing it the right way. And if you have a moment - if there isn't another group of golfers behind you waiting for you to clear the green - fix one or two other ball marks, too, if you find more of them on the green.

Greens Treatments 19th August 2009 19 August 2009

Greens Maintenance Programme

19/08/2009

We are currently in a programme to promote finer grass species in our grass sward ie, (Traditional Grasses, Fescues and Bents). From treatments carried out last year, this was very successful and the greens have improved significantly.

After the initial treatment we have embarked on a program to improve the 3rd and 4th surfaces, which were omitted from the original treatment.

These greens will deteriorate over the next few weeks but will improve rapidly.

The Greenstaff will endeavour to keep the best playing surface as possible by Over-seeding and Re-turfing these areas.

We ask the Members for their patience and understanding in this transitional period.

Yours Sincerely

Damien Doherty
